This catalogue tells the story of Gammel Estrup’s portraits. It is a story that takes ud on a journey from the uniform noble portraits of the 17th century, which aimed to promote a cohesive image of a unified elite, through the magnificent trappings of the 18th century to the bourgois portraits of the 19th century with no sign of rank or privilege.
