Exhibitions

Gammel Estrup presents the lives of both masters and servants from the renaissance to the early 20th century.

The manor house is arranged so visitors move chronologically through interiors of the various periods. On the ground floor in the south wing, the focus is on the 17th century. The entire first floor is dedicated to the 18th century, and the 19th century occupies the whole of the second floor. The ground floor in the northern part of the west wing is dedicated to the story of servants in the early 20th century.

Outdoors, visitors can walk around the beautiful gardens – the symmetrically laid out baroque garden with its orangeries, and behind them the orchard. In the grounds around the manor house there are also carp ponds and a kitchen garden, as well as the Scheel family cemetery, an ice house and a wolf pit. In Lunden, the grove located just less than 500 m from the manor house, stands the forester’s cottage, where visitors can see how rural labourers lived in around 1930.

In addition to the permanent exhibitions, each year Gammel Estrup presents several themed exhibitions on various subjects associated with the history and culture of manors.
